Pricing Methodology & Data Sources
Here we explain transparently where our prices come from and how we calculate them, so you can verify them yourself.
Data sources
- Gold, silver, platinum, palladium and copper: global spot prices from gold-api.com, in USD per ounce (copper in USD per pound).
- Exchange rates: from ExchangeRate-API (open.er-api.com), refreshed several times a day. The UAE, Saudi, Qatari, Omani and Bahraini currencies are pegged to the dollar at fixed rates.
- Oil, gas and historical charts: futures data published on Yahoo Finance.
- Local fuel prices: updated manually from each country's official monthly announcements.
Calculation
- 24K price per gram = ounce price ÷ 31.1034768 × exchange rate.
- Other karats = 24K price × purity: 22K = 22/24, 21K = 87.5%, 18K = 75%, 14K = 14/24.
- 1 tola = 11.6638 g and 1 kilo = 1,000 g.
- Other metals per gram = ounce price ÷ 31.1034768; copper per kg = price per pound ÷ 0.45359237.
Prices reflect the global price directly, with no making charge or margin added unless a page says otherwise.
Updates and daily change
- Metal prices refresh about every minute, oil every two minutes and exchange rates several times a day.
- Metals' daily change is measured against the last price of the previous UAE calendar day; oil against the previous settlement.
- Day high and low are tracked from midnight UAE time.
Charts and technical indicators
Short-range charts use the price snapshots we record every five minutes; longer ranges use futures data re-based to the current spot price, so they are approximate. Technical indicators use 5- and 20-day moving averages, a 14-day RSI and 5-day momentum, and are indicative only.
If a source is down
If the primary source is unavailable we switch to a backup source and show the last available price, with a notice when data is delayed.
